Exercising During the Winter
Winter is a beautiful time of year. Even though the frigid temperatures can bring dreamy landscapes, it can be hard to get your regular exercise in! Today we’ll be talking about working out in colder temperatures. These tips can also apply to situations where you don’t have access to your normal routine!
STAYING SAFE
Often times, you can follow your normal routine regardless of weather. But, it’s important to take extra precautions. If you plan on exercising outdoors, be sure that the conditions are safe! It’s best to stay inside while it’s snowing, or right after a snowstorm. Ice and snow can cause you to slip and injure yourself.
When exercising outside during the winter, it’s also important that you continue to hydrate and wear sunscreen! Even though it’s no longer warm, the sun’s rays still have the potential to do damage. It’s also important to drink plenty of water. Your body is still exerting a lot of energy, regardless of how cold it is. A helpful tip when working out in the cold, or just working out in general, is to drink water that is closer to lukewarm than cold. That way your body can stay nice and warm!
USE THE INDOOR SPACE YOU HAVE
Chances are that even if you live in a studio apartment, there are workouts you can do in minimal space! Push-ups, burpees, sit ups, or even yoga are all great ways to get your body moving when you only have access to limited space. You can also get creative with using regular household items to workout with. For example, cans of food work great as light hand-weights in a pinch!
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SEASONAL ACTIVITIES
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean that you can’t get out and enjoy everything that winter has to offer! Sledding, skiing, snowboarding, or even ice skating are all fun activities that will get your blood pumping. Just remember to follow our safety tips from earlier and, most importantly, bundle up!
