Protein is a big part of the Better Body System meal plan, and at Yoli, we know that quality is just as important as quantity. Here are some tips for choosing quality protein sources!
Read the label.
A lot of protein sources either don’t have labels or contain just one ingredient—chicken, for example—but others have longer nutritional labels that you should take into consideration.
Let’s take Greek yogurt, for example. Greek yogurt is almost always marketed as a healthy option, but some brands and flavors of Greek yogurt are filled with as much sugar as a doughnut! That’s why it’s so important to read the nutrition facts. Be choosy about what you buy and read the label to make sure you know what you’re getting.
Consider other nutrients.
As you choose your protein sources, consider what other nutrients they offer. For example, salmon will provide you with both protein and omega-3 fatty acids, so it’s a great option. If you need to add more calcium to your diet, Greek yogurt and cheese can help with that. Edamame is a good source of vitamin C, iron, and magnesium. By considering the full nutrient profile of different protein options, you’ll be able to select the best option for you!
Try new things.
