A Healthy Guide to Traveling

We got a few more weeks of summer left, and for many people, that means it’s time for a summer trip. Of course, no matter where you’re headed, you still want to maintain your healthy lifestyle. That’s why today, we have a healthy guide to traveling for you!

Plan Ahead.

When it comes to traveling, starting out with a plan is a good idea. Before you leave, take a look at your schedule for the trip and think about what you’ll want to eat for each meal. If you know you’re going out to dinner, take a look at the menu ahead of time to find some healthy options. If you know you’ll have a refrigerator where you’re staying, find a nearby grocery store to stock up on some healthy snacks. You may end up making some changes, but by planning ahead, you’ll find it much easier to eat healthy even on vacation.

Bring Healthy Snacks.

A lot of the time, it’s the little things that trip us up. We’ll do great at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but slip up when it’s time for a snack. This is especially true on vacations, when snacks may be limited to what you find along the way. Instead of relying on being able to find healthy snacks, bring them with you! Beef jerky, hummus and veggies, natural nut butters, and fruit are just a few examples of foods that are great for travelers.

Get Moving!

Staying active is a great way to maintain your healthy lifestyle as you travel. A lot of vacation destinations have great activities that you can enjoy, such as walking tours, scenic bike rides, hiking, swimming, paddle-boarding, and more. Take advantage of the area you’re in and try to pick at least a few activities that will get you up and moving.

If you’ve established an exercise habit, you may not have access to all of your usual equipment, but you can still stay active! A lot of hotels have a fitness center with some basic equipment. You could also go for a walk or run in the morning or evening. If you’re working on strength-training, bodyweight exercises such as planks, push-ups, squats, and lunges make a great workout, and they can be done right in your hotel room. Doing even a short workout is better than nothing, so do what you can!
